Office Block in Pune

This sketch proposal for an office block in Pune attempts to break away from the typical glass-box typology of office buildings in India. Instead, it seeks inspiration from vernacular architecture found in the region where volumes are stacked and staggered in various ingenious ways to respond to climate.

The starting point of the design was to imagine the entire office block as a large envelope within which different-sized programs were stacked next to, and one on top of the other. Since the plot ran longitudinally in a north-south axis, the volumes placed on the south facade were recessed progressively to protect its interiors from the harsh sun and rain. The north facade on the other hand, makes the most of the river views available on this side with large double-height glass boxes that jut out from its minamilist concrete face.
